Touring with a bicycle

An attraction is the hotel’s closeness to the inner city network of cycle paths and the larger cycle routes that pass straight through Augsburg and are easy to reach from here.

Travelling by bicycle

The network of cycle paths through Augsburg and the surrounding areas has been built up to a length of several hundred kilometres. At the main station and along the main cycle routes there are information posts with information about the many sights along the way. You can get information about rental stations for cycle hire here and at the tourist information centre at 1 Rathausplatz. "Bike & Ride" stations and partially covered parking facilities for cyclists have been set up at central locations in the city centre.

Around a fifth of the area of Augsburg consists of woods, a favourite destination for cycling day-trippers. Those close to the city include the Siebentischwald and Haunstetter Wald. The idyllic Kuhsee, the extensive Lech- and Wertachauen and the woods to the west can also be easily reached via the widespread network of cycle and foot paths.

Themed routes such as the ‘Augsburger Altstadttour’ (‘Tour of Augsburg Old Town’), ‘In den Schwäbischen Mozartwinkel’ (‘Mozart in Swabia’), ‘Auf Ludwig Ganghofers Spuren in den Schwäbischen Holzwinkel’ (‘Traces of Ludwig Ganghofer in Swabian Wood’), ‘Sisi-Tour’ (‘Sisi Tour’), ‘Beim Baierischen Hiasl’ (‘With the Bavarian Robin Hood’) or ‘Der Altbaierische Oxenweg’ ('The Old Bavarian Oxenweg [Ox Trail]’) are just some of the highlights of the cycle routes in and around Augsburg. A radial network of tours enables any number of route combinations.

Bavarian Swabia, as the region around the ‘Fuggerstadt’ of Augsburg is known, is also a crossroads for classic long-distance cycle trails such as the ‘Donauradwanderweg’ (Danube Cycle Trail) located a few kilometres to the north of Augsburg, or the Via Claudia Augusta and Romantische Straße that pass through Augsburg. This means that there are particularly well made and signposted cycle routes not just within the city but in the areas surrounding Augsburg as well.

Like a string of pearls, the Romantische Straße reveals one jewel after another. These include the historic Old Town, medieval city walls, Baroque pilgrimage churches, romantic convent walls and wild, romantic river valleys and rugged mountains.

Taking the old Roman road, the Via Claudia Augusta, which used to be an important trade route and where the original stonework can still be seen in a few places, you can even ride as far as Venice on the Adriatic.

The Danube Trail (‘Donauradweg’) is also renowned for its scenic beauty. The second longest river in Europe, the Danube stretches from its source in Donaueschingen to its mouth in the Black Sea. The cycle trail runs along almost the whole length of it. The most beautiful stretches are mostly upland passes (Obere Donau, Weltenburg and Wachau).

The e-bike rental E-Bike Verleih Wertach Vital – only 300 meters from our hotel – is at your disposal to explore the city and its surroundings with green energy. There you can also ask larger groups and outside opening hours.
